October is Disability Awareness Month

October is Disability Awareness Month.

Two speakers that are featured this month are:

Dan Leonard, Fair Practices Officer, Office of the President will be presenting an ?ADA
Workshop? on October 15, 2003 at 9 am to 12 pm in the Administration Building, room 120. You
will learn: the history of ADA; the definition of disability; how to handle pre-employment and post-
offer inquiries, how to determine which events disqualify employees, how to determine which
employees are covered, and how to accommodate a disability.

Lynne Murphy, OTR/L, Department of Occupational Therapy and Occupational Science will be
presenting ?Ergonomics in the Workplace? on October 22, 2003 at 1 pm in the Administration
Building, room 120. She will describe OSHA?s regulations regarding workstations to prevent
work-related musculoskeletal disorders. She will talk about the general guidelines and provide
examples. New ergonomic equipment will also be described.
